5 Alice in Wonderland Adaptations That I am MAD About!

For today’s post, I have decided that I would do a post on my five favorite Alice in Wonderland adaptations.    I truly am MAD for these adaptations in the best way! I will not be ranking these, as I do not believe that I could really pick favorites amongst them!

Alice in Wonderland (1951)

~The classic Disney animated version of the story is likely the one that most people first think of when they imagine this tale.   I do truly enjoy this version of the story greatly, and one cannot forget its impact!

Alice in Wonderland (1966)

~The BBC television adaptation was a very unique take on the story.   It used people with no makeup or masks to represent the animal characters.   I suppose it was assumed that you could tell that each of these great actors (as it had a star-studded cast) were the character they were portraying from context.   It is a great work of surrealism (there is a psychedelic spin to it) in the Alice canon!

Alice in Wonderland (1999)

~This was a favorite adaptation to watch as a child.   It is the one done by Hallmark Channel in 1999.   I loved the casting choices, particularly Miranda Richardson as the villainous Queen was brilliant!

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland (2013)

~This is the spin-off show set in the Once Upon a Time universe.   Fans were already familiar with Wonderland being part of this universe because the Mad Hatter was featured in season one of the show.   This one does an incredible job of telling us a unique spin on the Alice tale, even giving her an epic love story amongst the interwoven fairytale plot!

Alice in Wonderland Ballet

~I could not make this list without including this really fun and offbeat ballet.   It is a ballet that was performed by The Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House and was released on DVD in 2011.   I loved the usage of common Alice material to fuel a totally different style of ballet!   This one is not for the purists wanting classical style only, but for those that are in for all the epic elements of infusing ballet with other dance forms to create a thoroughly original work, this is for you.   I cannot say enough about this one, but I will say if you love Alice, give it a chance!

~I hope you have enjoyed this list of Alice adaptations.   What is your favorite version of Alice in Wonderland?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
